USING SEPARATE ACCOUNTS
Well folks, I know that having to create separate accounts for different characters is annoying, as you have to keep logging in and logging out, so I've been looking for something to help with this, as I know there are some of you who have more than one account.
I have put a new piece of code into the forum which allows you to post as any of your accounts without having to logout and log back in again.
Technical Information
It works by recording each account you log in to, then making that account available for use by manipulating the login info in the domain's cookie file. As long as the expiration time (selected on the login page) is still in-effect the login info is still considered valid by the server.
How to Use it
Log in on one account you want available, then logoff and login on another you would like to also use. Do this as many times for as many accounts as you wish to have available, then when you are ready to make a post simply select the account you would like to use for that post all from whichever account you're currently logged in on.
You must select which account you want to use before typing anything since the dropdown disables itself once typing starts in order to avoid losing what was typed.
You can set the expiration time for the logins to "forever" to always have those accounts available and never have to login on those accounts again. However if forever is not chosen and an account expires then the code will notify you which account(s) are no longer valid. (But don't worry about this last part, as "forever" is automatically selected for you!)
PASSWORDS
If you are worried about security in using separate accounts, here are some ideas to help:
- Use different passwords for each account.
- Instead of using a recognisable word for a password, type in some random letters, e.g. "fbweofubeaocb", and save it onto a notepad document.
- If you are using a public computer, always remember to log out of your account when you're finished.
- Don't use only letters or only numbers in your password.
- Don't use your username, character name, or nickname.
- Change your password often. Once or twice a month is ideal.
If you have any problems with this new feature, then please let me know and I will try to help you out!
